The Common Sense Society was legally established in 2009 as a non-profit foundation in Budapest, Hungary (Common Sense Society Alapítvány). After 2 years of operations, CSS also began activities in the United States. The founder of both legal entities is Marion Smith (U.S. citizen). CSS is an independent, strictly non-partisan educational foundation funded exclusively by private and corporate donations and does not accept government grants or
contracts. In recognition of our early achievements, CSS received the 2010 Templeton Freedom Award in social entrepreneurship, among an international pool of 132 nominated organizations.
